Fifteh Poonds!!
Saw "The Church Basement Ladies" this afternoon. Not surprisingly, the entire audience of this minor-league musical was comprised solely of... real-life church basement ladies. It's funny how that show takes place in the 1960's and yet I saw absolutely no difference to my very own church basement, from the chrome on the three-step, vinyl-covered stools to the huge black stove to the monstrous coffee maker. I recognized every personality (and every tacky 60's housedress!) and pin-pointed them to my own "church basement ladies," and... i'm one of them. There, in the middle of the crazy menopausal one and the ancient, wise, i'll-kill-you-if-you-change-one-thing-about-my-church leader... was a mother and her 18-year-old daughter, both very involved, yet neither sure they really fit in with the rest. They feel at home in the church basement, and they have made their place there, and they are strong in their faith, but they are constantly looked down upon for questioning the unchanging dogma that is the protestant church basement. Nothing every changes, nothing unexpected happens. God forbid you flaunt your modern personality.
As a personal belief, there is little wrong I find with God's law and His word. As a religion, it is quite good. As a church... I'm not sure how I feel.
...pic unrelated.
